Special Events for 2017

On August 15, 2017, we held a retirement luncheon for our former Care Package Program Manager, Dennis Bernhart, who had to retire due to health reasons.  To honor this amazing man for his selfless hard work and dedication to our wounded and deployed miitary, we created a "Dennis Bernhart Operation Military Embrace Volunteer of the Year Award" rotating placque.  It will be awarded each year to that particular year's most deserving OME volunteer and their name will be engraved on the plate for that year.
We were invited by the Woodlands Alspaugh's ACE Hardware store to participate in the Woodlands 4th of July parade with them:
On April 19, 2017, OME co-hosted a 10-year Reunion for the Marine 2/7 Unit (a.k.a. the "Bridge Marines").  On April 20, 2007, Sgt. Eric Morante, 6 other Marines, and their Navy Corpsman were standing watch over Bridge 286 near Saqlawiya in central Iraq when a suicide bomber detonated a dump truck carrying 3,000 lbs. of explosives under the bridge where they stood.  Six of the 8 men were injured (some more seriously than others), but, amazingly none were killed.  Ten years later all of those wounded are still alive!
On April 17, 2017, the Woodlands Chapter of the NCL (National Charity League, a Mother/Daughter volunteer organization) presented OME with a check!  The funds were used to replace OME's 8-year-old computer!  Thank you so very much, Woodlands NCL!
