Motivational & Special Events 2018

Mr. Reggie Knowles, Stack Barrel Hunting Club, the Louisiana Game Warden’s Association, Mr. Glenn Daigle’s Rabideaux’s Cajun Kitchen and local businesses and patriots from Southwest Louisiana sponsored the 6th Annual SW Louisiana Teal Duck hunt from 16 – 18 September 2018 in Welsh, Louisiana in support of 10 injured Soldiers and Marines, punctuated by impossible-to-duplicate and incomparable Cajun cuisine. The guides and their retrievers were exceptional, and all of the Warriors bagged limits of Teal during the annual Teal migration to Mexico and other points South when the Teal Ducks stopped in Louisiana for a brief respite along the Southwest Louisiana flyway.

Our wounded service members had a blast at this Pig Hunt in the Texas Hill Country September 7-9, 2018! To make it even more fun, we held a contest for categories such as "Biggest Pig", "Smallest Pig", "Most Colorful Pig", and "Ugliest Pig". The winner of each category won $100!

America needs to be continually reminded that many American Warriors have given their last full measure in the war against Islamic radicals but Hempstead, Texas, a Covenant City with the Department of Defense, needs no reminder as she is forever dedicated to remembering her native son, SSG Jeffery Lee Hartley, USA, and all of his comrades who fell in Iraq, Afghanistan and other theaters around the globe in the fight against Islamic terrorism. The 9th Annual Watermelon Run For The Fallen, held on August 18, 2018, celebrated and remembered each of the Fallen from Texas who gave their lives in OIF- I & II, OEF, Operation New Dawn as well as other less well known engagements.

On July 25, 2018, OME Director Susie Helms and her husband, Brent, hosted a lunch for some of our wounded service members and their families at Rudy's BBQ in New Braunfels, Texas.

OME was invited by Anadarko Petroleum Company to participate in their Kids at Work Day On June 21. As you can see by these pictures, we had so much fun watching the kids and their parents decorate pillowcases for our troops' care packages. It was one of the most popular stations at the event, and APC had to keep adding more and more tables for the kids to draw and color the pillowcases, and, even then, they had to use a lot of floor space!

On June 5, 2018, we presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Phil Lucia, the store manager, and a number of other employees at store 138 (99 & 59N) for their support this year in allowing us to hold a collection drive at their store. They were very appreciative of the certificate and Phil said he was going to put it on the wall behind the customer service desk in the store for all to see. Note the flamingo in the picture. Each Kroger store is now choosing a mascot. Store 138 has chosen Domingo the Flamingo as their mascot which is why he joined us for the picture.

On June 5, 2018, we also presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Store #359 (North Park & 59N) for their support this year in allowing us to hold a Kroger Collection Drive at their store.

OME cannot thank both the Woodlands and Kingwood locations of Alspaugh's enough for helping us support our wounded, ill, and deployed military!

On March 15, 2018, we drove to San Antonio to present the Operation Military Embrace Dennis G. Bernhart's Volunteer of the Year award to our 2017 recipient, Sgt. Kenneth Fischer, USMC, (Ret.). We honored Sgt. Fischer in this way for best emulating the generous giving, leadership and selfless qualities of former OME Care Packages Program Manager, Dennis Bernhart, and Sgt. Fischer did so throughout 2017.

March 3, 2018, OME was invited to attend the house dedication for wounded Marine Sgt. Eric Morante, USMC, (Ret). This house was donated by A Soldier's Journey Home and Nine Line Apparel.
